Hijuk and Mbula are spoken in the Centre Region by communities that receive almost everything by ear. Rather than wait for a written translation neither language yet has the readership for, the teams are translating between 2,500 and 3,500 New Testament verses aloud, and publishing them as audio.

The plan

To translate between 2,500 and 3,500 verses of the New Testament orally over three years beginning September 2024, into two Southern Mbam languages of the Centre Region of Cameroon: Hijuk and Mbula.

Your prayers are needed as the local teams work. These are the goals set for the project.

  1. Translate 2,500 to 3,500 New Testament verses orally.
  2. Publish completed verses in audio format.
  3. Distribute SD cards carrying digital Hijuk and Mbula Scripture every year.

Why orally

Both communities are predominantly oral. A printed New Testament in either language would sit unread for a generation while literacy caught up with it. Translating aloud puts Scripture into use immediately, in the form the community already uses to carry everything else it knows.
