Featured project · Psalms that sing

Biblical poetry, translated to be sung

Kom was one of six languages chosen for the 2022 pilot. The recordings travelled through WhatsApp to Kom families in Europe and the United States.

“I memorised the first four verses of this Psalm years ago because it spoke to and about my life. Then I read it in Kom.”

Dr. Kimbi Paul, on Psalm 103, after the third Kom workshop

The Kom Bible Project

20 books

Old Testament books translated into Kom since 2020

The Kom churches asked for the Old Testament in 2015 and supply its translators, which makes it the first community-driven project of its kind in Cameroon. Two phases since March 2020 have translated twenty books and revised all four Gospels. The team publishes checked and unchecked drafts online, so Kom readers can test the work while it can still change.

Registered 2014

Five objectives, unchanged since the day they were entered

These were registered with the association in 2014 under the 1990 law of association. They have not been revised, and everything the organisation does follows from them.

01

Get translated Scripture to the churches waiting for it

Organise distribution of the portions already translated, and encourage people to read, listen and sit with them.

02

Translate what people need to know

Health, agriculture, nutrition and human rights, into the languages people think in rather than the ones they were schooled in.

03

Research indigenous knowledge

Comparative work on cultures and knowledge systems, put to use rather than filed away.

04

Advocate for minority languages

Argue their case where decisions about them are made.

05

Keep the generations talking

Move cultural and contemporary knowledge between older and younger speakers before the link breaks.

Ways in

Three routes into the work

Whether you are funding a translation team, sending your congregation's support, or asking for Scripture in a particular language, the route is the same length — it just starts somewhere different.

Fund a translation team

Underwrite a project year: translators, consultants, workshops and the travel that makes them possible.

  • Named project or general fund
  • Annual written and financial report
  • Direct contact with the team you fund
  • Multi-year commitments welcomed

Church and institutional partnership

Work alongside us the way CABTAL and Wycliffe US do — on distribution, training, or a language of your own choosing.

  • Memoranda of understanding
  • Consultant and exegete training
  • Literacy classes in local churches
  • Joint publication of finished work

Request Scripture

There is no online shop. Write to us with the language and the quantity, and we will tell you what exists and what it costs.

  • Roughly fifteen Cameroonian languages
  • Print, audio and SD card
  • Bulk orders for churches
  • Answered within the working week
